Meet the Modern Foreign Language assistants

Foreign Language assistants (FLA)

We are fortunate enough to be able to employ the services each year of three full time foreign language assistants, one for French, one for Spanish and one for German.

These are usually French, Spanish or German speaking University students of English, who intend to make teaching their careers. In this way we are able to provide frequent direct contact with a native speaker, who not only helps to develop students' linguistic competence but also provides an up to date resource for the social and cultural background knowledge which forms such an important part of the language learning process.

The assistants join with the class teacher at regular intervals in normal lessons and also take small separate groups for more individual attention. This gives us great flexibility and allows us to stretch our more able pupils and to provide extra support and extension courses. We look at individual needs and always try to make the most suitable provision.
