Key Stage 3
All students are taught in form groups and study two languages in years 7, 8, and 9 either French and German, or French and Spanish. The transfer of knowledge and skills between the two languages ensures that pupils gain not only a firm foundation in the two respective languages but also a valuable insight into the process of language learning itself.
They have 3 lessons per week for each subject (6 language lessons in total).
We use 'Expo' for French, 'Echo' for German and 'Mira' for Spanish as our core text books, but these are supplemented with a variety of other resources; teacher-made & published worksheets, ICT software (such as Boardworks), websites to which we subscribe and other published materials. Every pupil has a Workbook for each language with extension activities and useful vocabulary arranged in topics.
We are constantly striving to improve the achievements of pupils in our curriculum area.
Thus we start the GCSE specification language courses in Year 9, using the Active Teach resources.
Key Stage 4
As a Language College, all students have to study at least one language to GCSE level; a large number also choose to take a second language.
In addition to completing their GCSE in Year 11, pupils may also be entered for Asset languages qualifications, depending on the individual student's aptitude and preference. These are nationally recognised qualifications, at an appropriate level, as part of the national Languages Ladder;
