Y13 Field Trip to Cranedale

Biology > KS5 FAQ Results Y13 Field Trip | Book Reviews | Student Work

Each year, as part of the A-level biology course, the Y13 students spend three days at the Malham Tarn Field Study Centre in the Yorkshire dales. We usually ask for a contribution of around £100 to cover the cost of the field trip, though grants are available in cases of hardship.

On the field trip we cover all the practical aspects of the ecology topic, including techniques such as belt transects, measuring abiotic factors, sampling and identifying living organisms in their habitats. Habitats studied include woodland, moorland, streams, bogland and the tarn itself. The field trip is taught by the Field Study Centre's own specialist staff. In the evenings there are facilities for recreation and relaxation in the Centre's beautiful and comfortable accomodation.
