Key Stage 4 (Years 10 - 11)

At Key Stage 4 we follow the OCR English and English Literature syllabuses, leading to the award of two GCSEs. We teach the syllabuses together to maximise teaching time and take advantage of material which may be used as part of both courses. In the course of the GCSE years, pupils study a range of texts, including a play by Shakespeare; longer and shorter works of fiction by major authors both pre- and post- 1914; poetry from different cultures and times; non-fiction texts of different kinds. The GCSE syllabuses also require pupils to show ability to write and speak for different audiences and puropses, and pupils complete a variety of activities to accomplish this.
