Homework at KS3 is approximately 30 minutes a week.
The tasks set are varied, and include research work, presentation preparation, questions that will be marked using level descriptors, and surveys.
An examples of a levelled homework task for each year group is given below.
Year 7 Lesson 4 Judaism
Jonathan has been asked to play in a football match on Saturday morning. Write a letter from Mrs.Cohen (his Mum) explaining why he cannot attend. Include at least 4 reasons why it is important for Jonathan to attend synagogue instead.
In order to achieve a level 4 you must:
describe in detail the affect that belonging to a religion has on people’s lives
In order to achieve a level 5 you must:
explain the difference that religion makes to individual believers and to a religious community
In order to achieve a level 6 you must:
suggest a number of challenges of belonging to a particular religion in today’s world and can state the values and commitments that help believers

1. How is Jesus portrayed in different ways?
2. How helpful is it that the image of Jesus is presented in so many different ways today? Is it acceptable that Jesus is portrayed in different ways (e.g. physical features, pictures, statues)? Explain your viewpoint fully, giving reasons to support your ideas.

account for similarities and differences in images of Jesus, suggesting reasons

Year 9 Lesson 2 War
a) What is pacifism?
b) Explain why the Society of Friends (Quakers) are pacifists.
c) Under what circumstances do you think other Christians would be prepared to go to war?
d) Would you be prepared to go to war?
In order to achieve a level 6 you must:
give an informed account of what the Society of Friends believe concerning conflict, and account for the impact and diversity of belief concerning conflict found within Christianity.
In order to achieve a level 7 you must:
analyse different views on pacifism and conflict, comparing with your own viewpoint.
In order to achieve a level 8 you must:
analyse different interpretations of belief concerning conflict and pacifism, accounting for the differing views of Quakers, other Christians and your own viewpoint.
