An introductory course for the first half term – the intention is to familiarise students with historical terms, concepts and skills, including:

Measuring time – counting years Chronology Change and Continuity Historical investigations Use, evaluation and application of historical evidence Differing Interpretations – bias. DAMIT and PEEL

Everyday Life and Power and Democracy

The struggle for power in 1066 Kings gaining control of the new English lands Castle building - Harrying of the North - Domesday - Feudal System The power of the Church Life for ordinary people -      Villages  Women  Sport  Disease

A World Study before 1900 (Islamic Civilisations)

 This is intended as a contrast to the study of Britain – comparing Britain in the Middle Ages with another state at the same time. The study includes the following:

• An understanding of the Islamic society – geography, language, religion
• Features of the period – the Crusades – causes, events & consequences

Trip

50 Students have the opportunity every year to act as peasants for the day while visiting Danelaw Village in York, under the keen eye of the Lord and Bailiff of Danelaw.
