Yr9 Holocaust Memorial Museum

To support the study of the religion and war module, Year 9 visit the Beth Shalom centre near Newark in Nottinghamshire. It is a Holocaust Memorial centre, where the main focus is the Jewish Holocaust of WWII, but guest exhibitions also highlight the other Holocausts which have and are going on in the world. This visit is extremely beneficial, as not only do the students watch video footage, and visit an extensive exhibition on the Holocaust, but they also have an opportunity to hear a survivor of the Holocaust speak. This proves to be a very moving experience, as it becomes clear that the ordinary people speaking have had very extraordinary lives; having endured tremendous hardship and suffering.

This visit raises many questions about morality, human nature and indeed the existence of God.
