UKMT Team Maths Challenge 2007
The school was represented in the National finals in London by Josie Smith and John Tarrant in year 9 and Airlangga Gunawan and Chris Wright in year 8, competing against 58 other teams from around the country.
In a tightly fought competition the team performed well, finishing on the top 20 in the main contest – which was won by St Olave’s school.
However in the Poster competition, based on the ideas concerning the symmetries of plane shapes and solids, the Heckmondwike entry was judged the best on presentation and Mathematical accuracy – hence being awarded first place. It will now be copied digitally and distributed to all schools entered in the competition.
