90 pupils from year 5/6 at Cawley Lane junior school have visited the Food Technology department to make healthy bread based pizzas and bread All pupils had an enjoyable time. At Christmas students made chocolates and also a gift box to put them in.
Arkwright Scholarship
Each year the school enters students for the prestigious scholarship.
Arkwright’s aim is to encourage and stimulate high ability 15/16 year old students to take up engineering or technological careers by awarding Scholarships during 'A' Level/Scottish Highers which are funded by industry partners and charitable trusts. The scholarships are keenly contested by over 800 applicants with around 170 scholarships awarded.
AutoCAD Taster Course
Each year an introductory course in the use of AutoCad is run for a number of our Y10 students who are planning to undertake their work experience placement in architectural practices. The software is used extensively in the construction industry and it is hoped this course will give our students an insight into its use before they start their placement.
Links with Spen Valley Sports College DT department
Mr Skippins has developed links with Ms Angela Clough, who teaches Graphic Products at Spen Valley Sports College.
Both teachers and students have found the link to be very worthwhile and it is hoped to extend the work further with the possibility of students from both schools working together on joint projects.
Mr Gerrard is now developing links with Mr Alan Giles along simialr lines in Resistant Materials
Support for GCSE Electronics in Kirklees
Over the last two years Mr Watson has worked closely with staff at Rawthorpe High School in developing their GCSE Electronics course.
Mr Watson worked closely with staff and students giving valuable support with their GCSE coursework.
This year he has given support to Holmfirth High School helping them with both KS3 and KS4 development work in Electronics.
