The work in textiles  allows students to develop their designing and making skills with soft or pliable materials.

Students have the opportunity to design and make a product in a mini practice project before selecting an item to make for their main assessed project. For their main project they  select a product to make which interests them, and is chosen from one of the categories:-

Fashion,
Furnishing,
Hangings,
Toys,
Accessories,
Utility Products,
Children’s fashions,
Soft Sculpture.

The course covers theory in fibres, yarns, decorative and construction skills, use of ICT, industrial practices, design, health and safety quality control and product evaluation.

Assessment

Assessment is in the form of a written paper (40%) and coursework (60%). The coursework  involves a design and make project with students producing a design folder and the realisation of the finished product using soft and pliable materials.
