A. COMPOSITION OF THE GOVERNING BODY

The governing body of the school consists of the following:

(a) Seven parent governors
(b) Three staff governors
(c) The head teacher
(d) Five partnership governors
(e) One LEA appointed governor
(f) Three community governors
(g) Two sponsor governors
(h) Two Sixth Formers (co-opted/non-voting)
(i) Deputy head teachers + Business Manager (co-opted/non-voting)

The governing body has the right to co-opt non-voting members.
The term of office of elected governors is four years.


B. SUB-COMMITTEE STRUCTURE

(a) Building committee
(b) Finance committee
(c) Admissions committee
(d) Staffing committee
(e) Staff discipline committee
(f) Staff dismissal appeals committee
(g) Curriculum complaints committee
(h) Pupil discipline committee
(i) Independent admission appeals panel

C. FREQUENCY OF MEETINGS

Meetings of the full governing body are held termly. This does not preclude further special meetings as required.
Finance and Buildings meet of necessity on a regular basis;
Staffing committee usually twice per year or as required;
Admissions at least annually to review the experiences of the current year
Other committees as and when required.

A special meeting of the governing body or its sub-committees can be convened at the request of any three governors. This request to be addressed to the Clerk.

D. ELECTION

Governor membership of sub-committees should be determined following an election at the first meeting of the governing body in each school year.

F. QUORUM

A quorum for governing body meetings is one third of the membership, two-thirds when considering election of chairman or governing body members; for sub-committees a quorum is generally one third or five, whichever is the greater.

G. COMMUNICATION

Reports:
Committee minutes, together with a Head Teacher’s report summarising issues, to be circulated to all members of the Governing Body before each meeting of the full governing body. The Chairman of the sub-committee to answer questions and give further details to governors as required.

H. SCHOOL VISITS

Governors are welcome to visit the school at any time.
It would be appreciated if notice could be given of any intention to visit to ensure that the Head or a Deputy is available to assist with any enquiries.

In case of fire, or other emergencies, all visitors to the school are required to sign the visitors’ book in Reception. We would be grateful if Governors would follow this code of practice.
