Senior House Debates

 

The following are a selection of motions which have been used (or at least considered) in past Inter-House Senior Debating Competitions. Motions are usually controversial in some way, and are often topical.

  

  • This house believes that the scientist is more valuable than the artist.
  • This house believes that it is better that ten guilty persons escape than one innocent suffer.
  • This house believes that love of money is the root of all evil.
  • This house believes that we should turn the other cheek.
  • This house believes that the EC is a European Economic disaster as far as Britain is concerned.
  • This house believes that religion does more harm than good.
  • This house believes that the world benefits more from enterprise than from compassion.
  • This house believes that manners maketh man.
  • This house believes that debating is a useless activity.
  • This house believes that the good old days are a myth.
  • This house believes that the end justifies the means.
