Heckmondwike Grammar School was opened in 1898, click here to read more history of the school on the main school site. If any ex-pupils or members of the staff past and present would like to add any more information about the school, please feel free to contact us.
At one time the school had quite a flourishing OSA, with an annual dinner and other events that were quite well attended. In the late 70’s and early 80’s this activity declined and in 1982 a call was made to reform the OSA. Lack of electronic resources hampered the work of the OSA to keep in touch with ex pupils effectively. In 1983 and subsequent years an AGM was not called due to low attendances to meetings however annual newsletters were still produced and distributed to members noting news of ex pupils successes.
Again in 1992 efforts were made to increase attendance to OSA events with a buffet evening and again in 1996 further efforts were made whereby many new ex-pupils signed up for membership.
Now, in 2008, with the use of electronic communication means, we hope that this marks a new era for the HGSOSA and look forward to taking it into the future.
A change in the constitution
The constitution of the HGSOSA had been in place for many years. Whilst the main bulk of the constitution was viewed to be still relevant, some parts were not including the committee make-up. On May 14th, 2008 a special meeting was called inviting all members of the OSA to review the constitution. It was decided that membership fees were to be removed and the administration should be under the role of the School Development Manager at the School. The OSA was also decided to move into the technological era and be electronically based. The minutes can be viewed here and the revised constitution here.
