Complete the application form and select your preferred areas of interest indicating your 1st and 2nd choices.
Return the application form - signed by parents - by the agreed deadline.
To trigger action on your application, you should then attend Careers/Work Shadowing talks in your chosen field during Skills Lessons. Details of the talks will be notified via your school email and the Sixth Form Bulletin.
At the Careers Talks, Mrs Morton will provide important information and guidelines to assist you in finding a placement in your chosen skill area.
Produce an up-to-date CV. There is a template CV and letter of application on the Careers website. These can be adapted to suit your personal circumstances. Please keep letters to one page and CVs to no more than two sides of A4. Once completed, give your CV to your Form Tutor for checking. This will then be kept on file.
Use your CV letter to make placement enquiries with employers, not forgetting to use personal contacts where possible.
If you are offered a placement, confirm arrangements with the employer and arrange an interview if required.
Interview arrangements should be made outside school hours wherever possible. If it is necessary to attend during the school day, please seek permission from your Form and Subject Teachers.
If you are unable to find a placement yourself, within three weeks of the Careers Talk, please ask Mrs Morton for help / advice.
Tell Mrs Morton about your placements, even your own private arrangements, so that Health & Safety checks can be made. This is essential for the placement to be approved and certificated by school. Approved placements can also be counted towards your AQA Baccalaureate.
You will be given a student contract to agree and sign.
Mrs Morton will issue you with a letter confirming the agreed details of your placement and school contact numbers in case of accident / incident, or if you need support from school staff during your placement.
All students are required to attend a short Health and Safety awareness session.
