National Relay Championships for Secondary Schools

On Friday 14 October the school had teams competing in the regional round of the English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA)
National Relay Championships for Secondary Schools.

In one of the largest of the ESSA regions, schools were represented from as far afield as Scarborough, Hull and Grimsby.

In the Senior Championships
the girls’ team of Charlotte Hogg, Emily Powell, Charlotte Regan, Emma Craig performed with great credit, just missing out on the final of the Medley relay where they finished 7th.

In the Intermediate Championships
the girls' team of  Hannah Woodcock-Shaw, Jemima Beaumont, Mia Green, Alicia Roberts were 7th in the Medley relay and 9th in the Freestyle event. Despite not enjoying the success they hoped for, they were certainly instrumental in helping to maintain a very positive team spirit all evening!

In the Junior Championships
the boys’ team of Raul Todd, Harry Wood, Adam Coote, Toby Beaumont benefitted from last year's experience, finishing just outside the medals with a 4th place in the Freestyle Relay. Their time in the Medley relay would have been good enough to take the Bronze medal but for a momentary lapse in concentration which saw them disqualified.

Pride of place goes to the girls’ team of  Rebecca Fisher, Eleanor Jackson, Jessica Hodgson , Elizabeth Brook. Having just missed out on a medal with 4th place in the medley relay, they excelled themselves by winning the Freestyle relay with a time only 9 hundreths of a second outside the Division 3 Championship record. As regional champions there is no automatic qualification for this year’s national finals to be held in Southampton in November; we wait to see if their time places them in the top 16 teams in the country.

Congratulations to all!
