I am delighted to be able to welcome you to Heckmondwike Grammar School. Our school’s reputation and its many successes are well known both local and nationally, and this is due to the achievements of our staff, students and parents working so effectively together to promote our young people’s best interests. There is a real commitment from all to ensuring that everyone benefits from what the school has to offer.
In 2010, we were one of the first 32 outstanding schools to convert to become an academy trust. Although the independence this provides is nothing new to the school, having been ‘grant-maintained’ for many years, we believe that the greater independence this provides allows us to go even further in realising our aims of providing the best possible education for our students.
The school culture is aspirational, celebratory, forward thinking and promotes support for others. Mutual respect, tolerance and shared values prevail. We want all the children who come to the school to enjoy their school days and to become thoughtful, articulate, confident and responsible members of society. Our programmes of teaching and the wide range of extra-curricular activities we offer are directed to this end. All these elements combine to ensure our students will be exceptionally well-prepared for life in modern Britain.
Our greatest resource as a school is the combination of staff and students working together in community: we are proud as a result of what we offer and the outcomes, in all forms, that we support our students in achieving. Strong partnership with parents underpins the work we do and we look forward to the support of all of those involved as they engage with us in achieving our aims.
