Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (commonly DofE), is a programme of activities that can be undertaken by anyone aged 14 to 25, regardless of personal ability. DofE programmes can on average take anywhere between 1 year and 3/4 years to complete, depending upon the route taken, and around 275,000 participants are taking part in their DofE Programme at any time in the UK.

In the school the Duke of Edinburghs award is run in both y10 for the Bronze Award and year 12 for the Silver Award. The opportunity to undertake the Gold level of the award exist within the school but we use external expedition providers at this level.

The Award has four distinct areas...

  1. Volunteering: Undertaking service to individuals or the community
  2. Physical: Improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities
  3. Skills: Developing practical and social skills and personal interests
  4. Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad.

The Award runs in different time frames with the Bronze taking at least 6 months to complete and the Silver taking at least 12 months to complete. The cut off age for completing the award is 25 years old.

Participants are expected to log all the activities they do themselves in an online D of E portal, run by the award.
