Covid-19 statement for the entrance exam for entry September 2021

Heckmondwike Grammar School Academy Trust takes the threat of Coronavirus (Covid-19) very seriously. Our overriding priority is the safety of everyone involved in taking the exam including those children taking the test, their families and friends, all members of staff employed by the School and their families and friends and all students currently attending the school and their family and friends.

The School follows the guidance published by Public Health England and the Department for Education so that the health and well-being of all concerned is protected.

Any reasonable adjustments will be made by the School following recommendations made by Government to protect all concerned which may result in changes to our usual arrangements for taking the test. Any changes to our published timetable for the exam will be communicated to all concerned in a timely manner so that changes can be reasonably accommodated.

Will the entrance exam still go ahead?

Yes. The entrance exam is scheduled to take place on Monday 14 September 2020.

Will adequate distancing and hygiene measures be in place?

The School will implement appropriate distancing and hygiene measures to protect everyone involved in the testing process.

Will children still have to take the test if they are ill with Covid-19?

If a child is ill, please follow the Government’s guidance which, at present, state they should isolate for 7 days (if have symptoms) or 14 days (if member of the household has symptoms). If, for whatever reason, your child is unwell and cannot take the test, please ensure a medical certificate is provided. Parents will be expected to sign a card stating that their child is fit to sit the exam on the day of the exam and that no one in the household has Covid-19 symptoms. This card will be sent out to you prior to the exam and it must be handed in on the day of the exam.

What if a child has to self-isolate due to a family member (or someone they were in close contact with) being ill with Covid-19?

Please contact the Admissions Officer to discuss this. We would advise you to keep records of any evidence which may support a subsequent application for special consideration.

Can a child take the test at home or at another location if the child or a member of their family is shielding?

No. Everyone taking Heckmondwike Grammar School’s entrance exam must take the exam at Heckmondwike Grammar School. If your child falls into this category, then please contact the Admissions Officer.
