Music

There is a strong tradition of music at HGS. Practical music making is regularly heard around the school, whether in the department, assemblies or at our frequent concert performances. Vocal/instrumental performance, composition or the use of music technology is strongly supported.

We also encourage students to appreciate the vast array of musical styles they hear both in and out of school. There are numerous concerts each year, both inside school and in the wider community. The music and drama departments regularly join together to produce our whole school productions which have recently included The Addams Family, Grease, We Will Rock You, Little Shop of Horrors and Return to the Forbidden Planet.

Peripatetic Music Lessons

We have a strong team of peripatetic instrumental music teachers where students can choose to have lessons on a wide range of instruments or voice. There are also numerous musical ensembles, both small to large and lower to higher ability – something for all students to participate in.
