The Old Scholars Association

HGS alumni are collectively known as ‘old scholars’ and the Old Scholars Association brings together former students and promotes links with the school. When you become a member of our alumni community, you can continue to share in our development and success. You are also encouraged to support our sporting and social events, and to take the opportunity to meet and network with former students.

We are very proud of our alumni and are keen to stay in touch with all past students. If you haven’t already joined the Old Scholars Association, we would love you to do so. Once you have joined, please update us on what you are doing now, and we will share our school news with you.

The old scholars association hopes to bring together former students and promote links with the school. We were recently able to find school records for the family of deceased centenarian Lucy Ingham, née Cooper, which show her talent at debating along with photos of her in the hockey team. To celebrate Lucy’s time at school her family have generously sponsored the Lucy Cooper/Ingham prize which will be awarded for the first time this year. We also received a generous benefaction from Graham Hutton a few years ago which enabled us to create the Hutton Drama Studio. Maintaining connections like these are really important both to us and to those who spent enjoyable times at Heckmondwike Grammar in years past.

We are currently in the process of creating an Old Scholars Association newsletter. It will be published via our Facebook page and sent to all contacts on our Old Scholars database. We are always keen to hear news of what you are doing, learn about your career and achievements, or hear your memories of former students and staff.

School archives

As a school with a long and illustrious history, keeping records of HGS is very important. We are currently working on our archive, and welcome any donations of school memorabilia to enhance our collection.
