The transition from primary to secondary school can be a stressful time for students and parents. We want your child’s move to Heckmondwike Grammar School to be as smooth as possible and we have set aside three transition days, two of which will take place in July. Both days provide an opportunity for new students to meet with their new class and form tutor, find their way around the building and enjoy some lessons. Lessons will include Geography, Science, French or Spanish, DT and PE.
Students should arrive via the student entrance on North Street by 8.40am where they will be directed to the Lesser Hall, allocated their forms and introduced to their form tutors. On the first day they will tour the school, learn about the school routine and have some sample lessons. A pen and notebook will be required. Students are not expected to wear uniform, but will need to bring their PE kit for the second day. Students may bring sandwiches or purchase a lunch (cash only) from the school canteen (cost approximately £2.20). Students who are entitled to free school meals will be allowed a free lunch as normal.
Each day will end at about 3.15 pm. Please note that you will either need to collect your child in person or they can be met by an older brother or sister who is currently at the school. For safeguarding reasons, we will only be able to allow your child to leave school unaccompanied if you inform us in writing.
