Sixth Form Pathway Programme
All Sixth Form Students at Heckmondwike Grammar School have the opportunity to follow career-focused pathways. Each pathway provides our students with career-specific information and a range of additional opportunities during their time in our Sixth Form. The aim of the pathway programme is to give our students the additional support, experiences and guidance needed to help them achieve their future goals and ambitions.
The Six Pathways are:
Oxbridge Pathway – Led by Mrs Stone, this pathway is intended to support students who aspire to attend Oxford or Cambridge University.
Oxbridge PathwayMedical Sciences Pathway – Aspiring medics, dentists and veterinary surgeons will be provided with a wide range of opportunities that will help them develop a deeper understanding of medical careers. Degree courses may include; medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacy, physiotherapy, midwifery, biomedical science and nursing. This pathway is led by Mrs Noble.
Medical Science PathwayApprenticeship and Employment Pathway – Led by Mrs Ellis, this pathway is designed for students that would like to enter the world of employment at the end of their A Level studies.
Apprenticeships & Employment PathwaySTEM Pathway – Aspiring scientists, designers, engineers and mathematicians will be provided with a range of opportunities that will help to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of STEM based careers. Degree courses may include; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computing, Engineering, Product Design and Sports Science. This pathway is led by Mr Brooke-Mawson.
STEM PathwayHumanities and Arts Pathway – The Humanities and Arts pathway will focus on providing students with additional opportunities linked to pursuing a career in the humanities and arts sector. Degree courses may include; English, Geography, Art and Design, History, Law, French, Spanish, Music, Performing Arts. This pathway is led by Mr Oxby.
Humanities & Arts PathwayBusiness, Economics and Finance Pathway – The Business and Finance pathway will focus on providing students with additional opportunities linked to pursuing a career in the Business and Finance sector. Degree courses may include; Business, Economics, Accountancy and Finance. This pathway is led by Mrs Harker.

- Each pathway will provide students with a range of career-specific information and additional opportunities during their time with us.
- The aim of the pathway programme is to give students access to additional support, guidance and experiences that will help them achieve their future goals and ambitions. After subscribing to a pathway, students will be able to access career-specific events, guest speakers, trips and visits.
