HGS Students Transitioning to Sixth Form
We would like to inform you of how the process for A Level option choice, application, offer, and acceptance to our Sixth Form will run.
Supporting the Transition into our Sixth Form
Students are invited to attend a Taster Day on Wednesday 4 December, where they will take part in taster sessions in 4 or 5 A Level subjects and experience a day in the life of a Sixth Form student, with the option of a free period, and use of the excellent Jo Cox Centre.
There will be an assembly on Friday 15 November detailing the Taster Day information. Students will also receive a letter – this too will provide details of the whole process.
During form time on Wednesday 20 November students will be based in a computer room with a staff member to ensure that they have the support they need to complete their chosen subjects. In the week following this, students will receive a letter with their individual timetable based on their chosen A Level choices, for the Taster Day.
In order to be counted as a candidate for our Sixth Form, students do not need to put in an application; students must write a Personal Statement and upon submission of this they are automatically counted as an application candidate. Students must complete their Personal Statement by the deadline of Monday 16 December using the MS form link that will be emailed to their school email address.
Early in the new year we will hold, during lunchtime, subject stands in the SCR. These will be manned by current Sixth Form students across all A Level subjects. Year 11 students are encouraged to attend these stands and ask questions.
Sixth Form Interviews will be held after school on Wednesday 29 & Thursday 30 January, Wednesday 5 & Thursday 6 February. All year 11 students will be invited to book an interview where they will discuss their future aspirations and confirm prospective subject choices for A Level.
Year 11 students do not automatically get a conditional offer letter for our Sixth Form, as they need to meet the grade entry requirements and show by their attendance and behaviour that they are suitable for our Sixth Form.
If a student is not awarded a conditional offer letter, for instance if they are not currently meeting our entry requirements, then they will have a meeting with a member of the Sixth Form Team reviewing their Sixth Form options.
Enrolment Day is Thursday 21 August. Students will collect their results and in order to secure their Sixth Form place and confirm their final subject option choices they need to enrol in person between 8-10am. .
We look forward to supporting students in their transition to Sixth Form.
