SEND
We are proud to be an inclusive school where each student is valued, supported and encouraged to succeed.
Research evidence tells us that young people with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) do best in schools where there is an inclusive environment and expectations are high for all students. At HGS, our students with SEND are part of a supportive school culture and we meet their needs both academically and pastorally.
We are continually developing our SEND provision to respond to an increasingly diverse range of individual learning needs and to close the attainment gap. We recognise that some children may need additional support at different points in their school journey, and we work closely with students, families, staff and the local authority to ensure individual needs are understood and met.
Our SEND provision follows the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and is delivered through a graduated approach: Assess, Plan, Do, Review.
We are committed to the early identification of SEND so that appropriate support can be provided through high-quality inclusive teaching. Reasonable adjustments and relevant interventions can also be implemented to support the emerging needs of students.
SEND support is based on careful evidence gathering and evaluation of individual need. Our strategy is to develop breadth in provision and involves varied approaches to address students’ specific needs. We place a high value on student voice and work in collaboration with you as parents, as well as involving external agencies when appropriate to ensure each student receives the right support at the right time.
Our SEND information report provides details about how we identify, assess and make provision for students with SEND. Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities policy provides more information for parents of students with SEND.
Our school SENDCO is Jenny Illingworth. If you need to contact her directly, please email [email protected].
