Admissions Policies

Download and read our admissions policies for Year 7 and Sixth Form entry which have full details of the criteria for admission.

If you want your child to attend HGS, they must pass the relevant entrance examination and meet the criteria for admission. Our admissions policies give detailed information which will help you understand the admissions process and ensure that, as a parent, you meet all the necessary deadlines.

The policies are reviewed on an annual basis and are approved by the Governing Body.

Main school admissions policy

The majority of places are taken up by students who live outside of the HGS catchment area. In a typical year, over three-quarters of places are offered to children from outside the catchment area. Students who live within the catchment area have to pass the entrance exam to exactly the same standard as other students, but if the school is oversubscribed, places will be offered to catchment area students as a priority.

The postcodes in the HGS catchment area are:

  • WF16
  • WF15 6
  • WF15 7
  • WF15 8A
  • WF15 8BA
  • WF15 8BB
  • WF15 8BC
