Quality in Careers Standard

We are delighted to announce that our careers department has been awarded the Quality in Careers Standard, the national quality award for CEIAG. The standard is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks (the areas that are viewed as essential to good careers guidance) and statutory guidance, so the award is an excellent indicator that our students are receiving CEIAG of the highest quality.

To gain this award, we had to provide substantial evidence against all nine criteria and be reviewed through a full-day assessment visit, which included lesson observations, interviews with the careers team and conversations with staff, senior leaders, governors, students and parents. The assessor’s report was then verified by a national steering group.

The final report was highly complementary of the school’s provision, while also supporting us in identifying strategies to improve even further over the next three years of our review cycle.

From Monday 25th June 2018, work will commence to install a new sewer on High Street. The work is set to take place in two phases and is expected to take 14 weeks to complete. The first phase of the scheme will start on Monday 25th June on High Street on the tarmacked area by the flats on Church Lane. Church Lane will therefore be closed at the junction with High Street. This closure will be in place 24 hours a day, traffic diversions will be via Church Street to Market Street. This will remain in place until the end of August.

The second phase is due to commence on 23rd July and is expected to take 6 weeks to complete. This work will be on High Street between Church Lane and North Street. Temporary traffic lights will be installed on High Street between Church Lane and North Street and will be in operation for 24 hours a day.

Please note that these works are likely to have an impact on traffic flows in the area, please allow more time for your journey.

It is with great regret that we inform you that we have been forced to cancel our Biology/Geography visits to Malham Cove with Year 8 on Monday 25 June for forms 8AHH, 8KMB and 8NJS and Tuesday 26 June for forms 8RGF, 8RLP and 8SJL.

This is as a result of extensive roadworks carried out by North Yorkshire County Council in the vicinity of Malham which have made the area of Malham Cove inaccessible to coaches. The diversions put in place locally are not appropriate for coaches and we are unable to transport significant numbers of students to the visit by any other means. Though these measures were advertised locally, we have only just become aware of them.

As you know, we value educational visits immensely and we do realise that the students and staff who were looking forward to these visits will be very disappointed, but there is no means of rearranging the visits at this stage. As a result, the week commencing 25th June will now be a normal school week for Year 8.

Further communication will follow relating to financial reimbursement of parental contributions paid for the visit.

Year 11 Book Return Day and the Sixth Form Induction Event which follows will now take place on Monday 25th June. Year 11 students should meet at 9.30am in the Swann Hall for instructions. School uniform will not be required on this date. Please see a list of resources to be returned below.

Parents of children currently in year 5 are encouraged to attend.

The examination for 2019 entry -with take place on Monday 17th September 2018.

We have great pleasure in announcing this year’s house music competition. Everyone should consider entering in some capacity and we hope it will be a real showcase of the different musical talents we have in our school.

There are competition classes for various year groups and for soloists, ensembles, instrumentalists and vocalists. All abilities and all styles of music are welcome. We hope it will be a very musical competition that will give our judges some difficult decisions on the day.

We would also encourage students to enter our new Musical Theatre class.

This is open to all year groups to perform a piece from a piece from a musical, which may include costumes, props or dancing. Really consider the character, story and scene from the musical in your performance. You will be judged on how you have interpreted the music for this stage performance.

Any questions please speak to Mr Cole, Mrs Connell or your form tutor.

Entry forms are available to download below. Final Entries by Tuesday 3rd July, 3.35pm. It is very unlikely any late entries will be accepted.

On a warm May day the DofE Bronze Qualifying group set off for the Dales from school and arrived at their start point.  After sorting out their kit they started on their route.  Navigation started well and the route although physically challenging at times was relatively easy to navigate.  Meeting them at a checkpoint, spirits were high and the groups were working well together. However, as always they were happy to reach the campsite at Gordale Scar.  After pitching the tents they set about cooking dinner, which was mainly pasta based!  They were ready to relax and prepare for Day 2. It was a dry evening and with a slight breeze the midges kept away.
They were up early on Day 2 and camp discipline was good, cooking breakfast, taking down tents and organising kit – they were away nice and early with spirits high.  The weather was again warm and sunny and everyone worked well to support each other throughout the day.  Well Done to everyone who took part.

Please see below a list of all the available booster sessions available to our Year 11 students currently undertaking their GCSE examinations. Please contact Mrs Hanson to book onto a session.
